Delivering on Good Health during COVID-19

Mature and young truck drivers with protective masks and gloves during the COVID-19 pandemic

As America continues to struggle with the effects of COVID-19, the country depends on truckers to insure that food and necessary products are available to everyone. Truckers are essential workers and need to have protocols in place to protect themselves during this pandemic.

Stay healthy and stay on the road by following recommended precautions:

  • Limit close contact

Plan ahead for stops that you need to make. Know which truck stops, hotels, restaurants, and rest stops follow COVID-19 protection guidelines. Limit stops by carrying food and water in your cab. Maintain a distance of at least six feet between yourself and others. Use electronic forms and radio communication to cut down on personal interactions.

  • Wear a mask

Carry Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for those times when you will have in-person contact. Wear a cloth face covering when you are in a public setting or in close communication with others.

  • Disinfect

Wash your hands frequently. Carry hand sanitizer of at least 60% alcohol. Clean your hands before and after leaving the cab and before and after eating. Disinfect the truck’s interior, especially the high-touch surfaces: driver’s door handle, steering wheel, seat belt and buckle, turn signal, wiper controls, radio, and temperature controls.

  • Quarantine

Stay home if you are sick. Let your employer know that you are not feeling well. Have a plan in place with your employer to cover your route. Quarantine as directed by your health-care provider. Follow health care guidance if a family member or close contact tests positive for COVID.

  • Stay informed

Follow health updates and guidelines from your employer. Continue to comply with current Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations.

Until COVID-19 is controlled, truck drivers are on the front lines. Follow safety guidelines to keep you, your family, your co-workers, and your customers safe.
